WordPress Vs. Webflow – Vibe Coding to Future-Proof Your Website

We’re heading to the end of 2025 and it’s going to be a year remembered for many advancements in technology, the main of which will be centred on how AI has become commonplace in both the workplace and home (and basically anywhere humans are). I was personally excited to see the term vibe coding being added to the Collins Dictionary this year, a sign that as tech is moving forward, it’s doing so with the liberation from the shackles and gatekeepers of the dark arts of coding and into a renaissance of accessibility, ironically so recently described itself, as shadow IT.

At Halston B2B, we’ve embraced a plethora of new tools to create efficiencies in our processes and communications but one of the biggest mindset shifts has been around how we build websites. I’ve been an advocate for the no code movement and the democratisation of technology for a long time, founding our tech initiative No Code Lab, back in 2020.

Now, for the eagle-eyed among you, or those eager to call out hypocrisy, I wont hide that a cursory glance at the code behind the very characters imbibed by your eyes at present, this site is built on WordPress – and it’s a ballache to work with, every, single, time! But not for long! Watch this space…

So as we’ve launched into new website projects this year, we’re asked, as we usually are, the dreaded question, “are you going to build it on WordPress? It’s our platform of choice”.

The answer is inevitably, we can do, if that’s really what you want, but did you know that technology has moved on and there’s a whole world of low code and no code options out there that will make your life so much easier in the long run? And with that, in case you’re wondering (and assuming you’re at least curious since you’re reading this post) I’ve collated here, our thoughts on the pros and cons of using WordPress vs. using something like WebFlow (there are many other builders, we’ve launched a lot of sites on SquareSpace for example, this is just a really good platform of choice that’s quite middle of the way in terms of needs and functionality read on to find out why!)

1. Scalability & Maintenance

  • WordPress: Constant plugin updates, security patches, and compatibility checks required. As your site grows, technical debt accumulates. You’re perpetually managing versions and dependencies, creating ongoing maintenance overhead that diverts resources from growth activities.
  • Webflow: Scales seamlessly without technical overhead. Hosting, security, and infrastructure updates handled automatically. Your team can pages and functionality without worrying about breaking existing systems or maintaining outdated code.

2. Development Dependency

  • WordPress: Requires developer involvement for most customisations, design changes, or functionality additions. This creates bottlenecks when you need add quick updates to your site, having to call up a dev just to put a Merry Christmas in your footer. You’re locked into ongoing developer relationships and costs for even minor tweaks.
  • Webflow: Marketing teams can build and iterate pages and even your footer independently. The visual interface means non-technical staff can create professional sites, launch campaigns, and make updates without developer queues. Empowers internal teams to move faster.

3. Hosting & Infrastructure

  • WordPress: Self-hosting means managing servers, security, backups, CDN setup, and performance optimisation. This requires technical knowledge and usually, additional hosting costs. You’re responsible when things break, often at inconvenient times and once again, you’re calling up your external digital partner for help.
  • Webflow: Fully managed hosting is included. It is with most modern website builders, it’s kind of archaic to have to deal with website servers outside of the builder when you really think about it (caveat: we do concede that some sites may need to live in certain places for compliance and regulatory concerns). Enterprise-grade infrastructure, automatic backups, global CDN, and SSL certificates are handled out-of-box.

4. Security & Sustainability

  • WordPress: You have to deal with constant security vulnerabilities through outdated plugins and themes. Did you know that 43% of hacked websites use WordPress? This requires vigilant monitoring, regular updates, and security plugins. One neglected plugin becomes an entry point for attacks.
  • Webflow: The alternative is a closed system with built-in security. No plugin vulnerabilities or outdated code risks. Platform-level security updates are applied automatically. It’s a sustainable long-term solution without the perpetual security anxiety that plagues WordPress sites.

5. Speed & Performance

  • WordPress: Performance degrades with plugins with each addition impacting load times. WordPress sites also require manual optimisation, caching plugins, and constant monitoring. Bloated databases slow everything down over time, hurting SEO and user experience.
  • Webflow: Clean code output and optimised hosting ensure fast load times by default. Built-in performance optimisation, automatic image compression, and lazy loading. Sites stay fast as they grow without manual intervention.

6. Design Flexibility & Control

  • WordPress: You’re limited by theme constraints, unless you hire developers for custom work. Pre-built themes look generic. Breaking free requires significant development investment. Design changes often mean rebuilding from scratch.
  • Webflow: Complete design freedom without coding. Build pixel-perfect, custom designs that reflect your brand. Iterate quickly on design without developer dependency. What you design is exactly what you get—no translation layer.

7. Cost Over Time

  • WordPress: Appears cheaper initially but costs accumulate: hosting, premium plugins, security tools, developer hours for updates and fixes. Hidden costs in maintenance time and emergency fixes. Your total cost of ownership escalates significantly.
  • Webflow: Predictable subscription pricing includes hosting, security, and infrastructure. Lower total cost of ownership when factoring in reduced developer dependency and maintenance. Transparent pricing without surprise expenses or technical debt.

Being a B2B marketing agency means that a lot of the sites we’re tasked with are more about showcasing and storytelling not ecommerce for example, but there’s no reason you can’t build an online shop on a low code platform like WebFlow.

The real skill in how we put any website together is the research and insight that goes into it, looking at your business aims and goals, developing buying personas and crafting your hierarchy of messaging. This is the part of the process that deserves your time and attention, not briefing a website company on a build that takes them 12months to put together from scratch.

If you’ve gotten this far down the post, you’ll have an idea on where we stand on modern, custom, B2B websites, but if you’d like to hear more on the debate or, you’re thinking about bringing your site into the age of no code, AI and vibe coding, give us a call, we’re always happy to chat!
